Decisions, decisions: To Vacay with Kids or NOT to Vacay with Kids

Sometime today, I had the brilliant idea that it would be fun to go to the Keys without the kids.  Since we were going to be stopping at my family's on the way down. . . hmmm. . . I wonder if they could watch them for a couple days and hubby and I could go to the Keys alone?  I started the ball rolling and called home to pass it by them.  And they all seem to be on board.  But, it will take some juggling of schedules, etc. on their part.

But, I had been looking forward to a family vacation.  I was kind of excited about getting the kids' picture taken at the "Southernmost Point".  And, hubby and I haven't left the kids alone without at least one of us for more than 2 days before.  We've only been away from them at the same time one weekend 3 years ago for 2 nights and maybe 4 other times for 1 night.  So, we probably need to be alone.  It would be nice.  But, leaving the kids will be hard.  I know that there are married couples who leave their kids for weeks at a time.  And then I know couples who will never leave their kids. I hate giving up that control and not knowing what's going on at all times.

I called my family back and said "It seems too hard to coordinate it all.  We'll just take the kids with us."  To which, my stepmom said, "Well, you don't have to decide right now.  Isn't it something that we can decide when you get here?"  So, as of now, we've decided to play it by ear.

I posted on Facebook asking my friends  whether we should go with or without kids.  As of right now,  there are 7 "withouts".  And absolutely no "withs".  So. . . .
I believe that if my family can swing it, my husband and I will get a little time away.  Maybe.

What's the longest time you've ever left your kids before?  Do you regularly take weekends away or vacations without your kids?
