Small Wall Canvas Project Preview

A couple weeks ago, my son wanted to go on a "date" with me.  He likes to go out with just mommy and it's nice to do every now and then.  As it was a school night and we didn't have a lot of time, we ended up getting a donut and then going to a craft store.  He actually really enjoyed the craft store and I got a lot of great ideas for his birthday in April.  They have a lot of Star Wars models that he would like to build.

But, that's not the point of this story.  The point is, we were at the craft store and I decided to buy some canvases, because I love having them around just in case I get an idea.  Michael's had their 2-pack Value canvases on sale.  I was planning on letting the kids make their own paintings, but I think I might keep them all for myself.

I had a wall in my dining room that I could never quite get a handle on for decorations.  I ended up just putting some framed family pictures up.  But, I still had a few spaces to fill.  I got "laugh" and "love" words that I finally put up after sitting in my closet for 6 months.  They were all out of "Live", darnit!  But, I loved them and bought them anyway.  And it still needed a space filler.  Sorry the picture isn't that great.  But, as I (pre)write this, I'm also trying to pack and get ready for vacation.  So, I don't have time to get a better picture.  The white canvas is where the finished project will go.  And obviously I don't have my 10x13 picture in it's frame yet!
I started my project by using wooden words that I got at another craft store as kind of a "reverse" stencil.  I traced them.
Then I started painting with a gray color that I made at home, because it was snowing out and I became impatient and wanted to start my project.  I mixed blue, red and yellow together until I came up with a gray that I liked.  I used to work in a paint store and I'm pretty good at mixing my own colors.  Here is a picture of the beginning of the painting process.  I also am going to make a "frame" around the outer inch or so with black/white/gray buttons.  So, that's what the buttons are for.  I thought about using the white fabric to make a zebra print flower in the lower right-hand corner.  I'll use a permanent marker to make zebra stripes on my scrap of white fabric.  When I get back from vacation and finish it, I will post pics of the finished project by itself and on the wall!!
Everyone have a wonderful weekend!!
I would love to hear from you!  But, I can't respond until I get back from vacation on March 12th.  So, if you haven't heard from me, don't take it personally.  I'm just enjoying an umbrella drink in the sunshine.  Yippee Ki-Yay!!
