Scripture Sunday | Building a Foundation

Well, here in the Heartfelt Handmade Household, we are building an addition onto our house.  Last week, you might have seen the porch come down and pictures of us cutting down the oak tree.  This week, my husband dug the trenches for the footers and poured the concrete for the footers.  According to an eHow article, "poured directly onto the ground, the footers serve as the base that will support the rest of the foundation."   As I thought about my husband pouring the footers for our worldly house, it reminded me of what kind of foundation I should have in my spiritual house.

And in my house, I would like our foundation to be built on belief and trust in God. At this point in my kids' lives, I'm just "digging the trenches" and "pouring the footers".  If I can give them a good enough foundation, then hopefully they'll be able to build their own houses that will remain strong and stand the test of time.

"“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.  But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”"--Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)
