I was so excited to find an Asian Style Boneless Rib recipe on Allrecipes.com the other night! The Boneless Country Ribs were buy one get one free at our grocery store, so I bought two packs. I'm not sure if I ever bought them before, so I needed to figure out what to do with them.
I found this recipe for Asian Style Country Ribs.
The directions said to put them in the marinade the night before.
So, I started them on Tuesday night around 9:00 p.m. I was tired, so I read the directions only up until the point where I put them in the refrigerator. Then, I woke up yesterday, put everything in the crockpot and turned it on for 10 hours. This was after I looked at the directions for the time and temperature.
All day, I kept thinking how strong the smell of soy sauce was. And then, I tried some and thought "Eeeek! They gave this recipe 4 stars?" Good Grief! I think it's a little heavy on the soy sauce. Then, later, when we were eating it, I told my husband, "I don't think this recipe was written right! I'd definitely cut the soy sauce in half." I even added water!
We finished dinner, probably with much higher blood pressures because of all of the sodium. I was cleaning up the dinner dishes. Then, I had a flash in my mind. ~~~Maybe, I wasn't supposed to leave the marinade in the crockpot!~~~ Duh! The word "marinade" didn't even register with me the entire day while I was cooking it.
So, I went back to my recipe and finally read this part!
Well, there you have it! Truthfully, if I would have cooked it right, I would have given it 5 stars! It was just a little strong the (wrong) way I cooked it! We also had some gorgeous stir fry veggies, bok choy and brown rice with it.

Michelle, I love it! I do this so often. Well, I used to. After having a few fails, I've gotten better at reading directions. Sort of. LOL
ReplyDeleteThose chicken breasts I made the other night didn't say whether to discard the marinade or not, so I kept it and baked it in it. It was really good, but it didn't have massive soy sauce in it. LOL
Your fail made me giggle this morning. At least it was still edible!
LOL, Nicole! I usually am pretty good about reading directions, but man, I've been tired lately!
ReplyDeleteIt was kind of edible. I'm thinking maybe I'll make a casserole or something with the leftovers to kind of disperse all of that flavor!
Glad I could make you giggle!
That has happened to me quite a few times. Sometimes I'll notice it the first time I read directions but miss it when I go to cook it.
ReplyDeleteI do sometimes skip a step...but thankfully I can usually make it work out in the end. It looks really yummy!

Ugh! I have done things like overnight marinading when it only called for 1-2 hours max! It happens.
ReplyDeletesometimes cooking "accidents" could either end up as a curse or blessing! last week i made some instant noodles and i didn't read the instructions. i should not have drained the water. no wonder it was so salty when i put in the mix. it was supposed to be noodle soup not chow mein! big fail! c",)
ReplyDeleteIf you like ribs and other meat you cook all day, seriously consider getting a smoker. Smoked ribs, chicken or pork, or even a nice turkey breast is amazing. I've never 'gotten' the crock pot. My wife loves the pot roast, but cooking meat in water seems odd to me. Plus, if you get a smoker, maybe it will get your husband excited to cook if he doesn't already.
ReplyDelete@Working Mommy-Thanks!
ReplyDelete@Krysia--Glad I'm not the only one! Yours should have been fine though, right?
aobibliophile--I've done that before! Blech!
@Bob Butterbottom--I love smoked stuff! My husband doesn't, though! I like my crock pot b/c of the ease of use. I just throw things in and forget about 'em!
Thanks for stopping by, everyone! Glad to know I'm not alone in my cooking misadventures!
Oh my gosh, I've skipped eggs in cakes, mistaken teaspoons for tablespoons, and most often misread cooking times. It happens to everyone. Kudos to you for not wasting the food and blogging your mistake!
