Slow Cooker Plum Apple Sauce

This was originally posted at my Making It from Page to Table blog in the Fall.  I am in the process of moving things over here!

Okay, I cheated a little.  This recipe is from my own page.  A re-purposed pink paper on which I came up with the recipe, in fact.  I looked at several different recipes to get pointers and came up with my own recipe. Which is how I function, often.   This makes a chunky apple sauce which is a darker color from the plums.

But, it was really yummy.

I had some plums to use that I got from one of our local orchards.  This bear at the orchard had a message for us!
In case you can't read the gibberish from the pink page above,  the recipe is:
Ingredients
20 small bite-sized plums, peeled and pitted (I think any amount would be fine)
5 apples, any variety, peeled, cored and cut into bite-sized pieces
1/2 c. orange juice
3 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Tbsp. Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Directions
Place all ingredients in the crock-pot and cook on low for 4 hours.  Once the cooking time is over, mash with a potato masher.  If you or your kids want a smoother apple sauce, you can blend it in a blender.
Note:  This recipe turned out a little too sweet for me.  If you're used to sweet things, you'll love it.  If you don't like things really sweet, cut the sugar a little bit or use Granny Smith apples.
