Love The Internet For Reuniting Me with My BFFs

Once upon a time before Facebook, there was Reunion.com.  I signed up the first time because I was trying to find one of my best friends from high school.  I paid whatever the annual fee was to be able to get in touch with people.   I found my best friend, "emailed" her and then she disappeared!  She never contacted me back.  Then about a year later she got in contact with me.  There was some kind of reason she removed herself from Reunion.com.  But, when she contacted me, it turned out that she lived just two hours from me!!  That's funny of course because we grew up together in Florida and the last time I saw her was in Florida.

My friend and I used to hang out together so much.  We used to lie on this little wall in front of her house and stare at the stars. . . . and probably dream about what our life was going to become.  Ours was a funny relationship because we are pretty much opposites.  Maybe that's why it worked!  We were friends throughout high school, although she moved across town at some point.

After I graduated, I went away to college and only saw her a couple times when I was at home.   While I still lived at college, she moved away.  The last I had heard of her, she had moved to New York.

I was so happy when she got back in touch with me when we were in our thirties.  And I was even happier to realize she lived so close.  Unfortunately, I never did go to see her that much.  It was difficult between schedules and having young kids.  She came to Ohio a couple times.  Then, she and her family moved again.  Now, she's six hours away.  I hope to get to see her sometime soon and I am so thankful for Reunion.com for reuniting us!

Once Facebook became popular, I never really went back to Reunion.com anymore.  I didn't even realize that it had changed names to MyLife.  I went to check to see if I could still log in and apparently I'm not still a member.  It seems like there used to be a basic membership.  I think the membership that you paid for was the membership that allowed you to send emails, which was the one I was signed up for in the beginning.  Once I couldn't get in touch with my friend, I didn't need the paid membership that much anymore.  There wasn't really anyone else that I wanted to get in touch with.

It looks like MyLife still has a paid membership.  It is an auto-renewal membership that is automatically charged to your payment account when your current term is up.  It also looks like monthly memberships start at $7.95 month.  Those costs can add up over time if you forget that you're automatically paying them and not using the service.  If the service is something that you use frequently, it might be worth the money.  But, if you haven't looked at your account in several months and you're still being charged for it, you should probably cancel it.  You can get a MyLife.com Refund fairly easily.  It looks like there is an 800 number that you can call to end your subscription.

I'm not sure I need anything like that since I use Facebook so frequently now.  I find that I can't keep up with so many accounts.  Do you use MyLife.com still?   Do you remember how you found people before Facebook?  I know I never even thought about how to find people before Reunion.com.  It definitely served it's purpose for me.  I have loved being reunited with one of my best friends.  She's one of those friends that you could be away from for twenty years and still pick right back up where you left off.   Do you have friends like that?
