The kitchen addition is going along swimmingly now. My hubby is actually out working on it right now! We installed the shelves in the cabinets yesterday and he did in fact finish hooking up the sink. Today we'll be moving the dishwasher into the new kitchen. And, hopefully we'll move the refrigerator into the new kitchen as well.
Since we're going to be unplugging the fridge to move it, it makes it the ideal time to clean and maintenance it and check to see if there are any issues we need to fix. I didn't know that you could look for refrigerator parts online. I love to shop online because of the convenience. It's so much better than dragging kids into a store, especially if I don't really know what I'm looking for. For instance, did you know that you can get electrolux refrigerator parts and accessories online? They have parts for the water filtration system, lightbulbs and parts for the refrigerator air filter.
The pieces, parts and accessories of my refrigerator are something I don't usually think about. I take for granted that they'll always be working properly and will last forever without me having to think about them. But, bulbs burn out. Filters aren't meant to last forever. Think about the air filters that you might have to use on your HVAC unit at home--they usually need to be changed once a month. But, I never think about the ones on the fridge!
So now that we'll have the refrigerator unplugged, it will be a good time to check all of that stuff.
I looked up how to clean your fridge on the Marth Stewart website. She know's everything, right? She actually calls the refrigerator the workhorse of the kitchen. Think about it. . . . it's the only appliance in the kitchen that runs around the clock, every hour of every day for it's lifetime. I think I need to take better care of mine! The Martha Stewart website recommends vacuuming the condenser coils at least twice a year. I'm about 7 coil vacuums behind. I'm lucky my fridge is still running.
It's also a good time to check to make sure all of my lights and any air filtration parts are working.
When was the last time you cleaned your refrigerator, including vacuuming the coils?

I like that: The refrigerator is the workhorse of the kitchen. So true :)
ReplyDeleteI never thought to check the filter on the 'fridge. I honestly don't even know where to find it, but I bet hubby will find it quickly. Excellent tip, glad I stopped by today! :)
