I always wanted to be a Ballerina | A to Z Challenge
When I was little, I always wanted to be a ballerina. I was obsessed with ballerinas. I never took ballet when I was little, though. I think people told me that I couldn't because I was flat-footed.
I remember opening the encyclopedias to ballet and studying all of the positions and reading all the information that the encyclopedia had about ballet. And I would put three pairs of socks on and try to stand on my toes.
I used to draw ballerinas all the time. That or unicorns. I was such a girl! And I had stuffed ballet shoes that were a decoration in my room.
My mom signed my sister and me up for tap when I was in the third grade, but I quit because I became nervous about doing the recital at the end of the year. That was also why I quit piano. But, truthfully, I didn't like practicing piano. Although I was a natural talent, I just didn't enjoy it that much. But, that's completely beside the point now. I suppose the point might be that even if I took ballet, I might have been too nervous to actually perform in front of anyone.
I did take jazz for two years in high school and I finally got on the stage and danced. I loved dancing. It was truly a passion of mine. I think I've either buried that passion or it has moved on.
I do have "take a dance class" on my "50 before Fifty List."
Maybe I'll take ballet? It will be the first real time. It could help with my poor posture as well!
Did you ever take dance?
