Arguing with Myself about Jelly Beans
So, I guess I've given up on having huge blocks of free time. I've settled myself to just taking small moments when I can. A few minutes to blog here, an hour and a half to read a book there. Maybe a little cocoa powder in my coffee.
But today I thought. . . . . . I should take candy with me on my route and eat a little candy after each drop-off. I popped a piece of gum in my mouth instead. Sounded like a better plan. But for some reason, I really want jelly beans lately. Maybe it's because they have all of their Easter Candy out in the stores now. The jelly beans just seem to be calling my name!
On the ride home today I had a conversation in my head that went something like this:
ME: I deserve jelly beans.
OTHER ME: But, jelly beans aren't good for you.
ME: I don't care. I still deserve them.
OTHER ME: But think about the sugar. I suppose you want to be sick for the rest of your life? You know, you read all of those things about sugar causing wrinkles . . . . cancer even! You don't need jelly beans. Eat an apple. Sugar wreaks havoc on your immune system. And Winter doesn't look like it's ending any time soon.
ME: I don't want an apple. And will eating one bag of jelly beans really be THAT bad for me?
OTHER ME: Yes.
ME: I don't care. I still want them.
OTHER ME: Whatever! Oh. . . .and by the way, you don't need to waste money on those things anyway. If nothing else, think about saving money.
ME: Fine. I won't get them.
So, I came home and ate a salad. And got my coffee with cocoa powder in it. Now, it's off to empty the dishwasher, clean the kitchen, pre-make dinner and fold clothes.
Without jelly beans.
Do you have a certain candy that you crave?
