Aging Gracefully

Today's NaBloPoMo prompt is:

"Do you enjoy growing old or do you fight against it?"

Well, I'm not sure you could say that I'm "enjoying" growing old.  I'm always tired.  My back hurts.  When I get down, I can't always get back up.  My hands are sooooo wrinkled!  My periods are all wonky from going through perimenopause.  The fun just never stops!!!

But, I'm not completely fighting it.  As you know, I've grown out my gray hair.  I was definitely tired of fighting that battle!  I haven't had any "work" done.  I'm not sure that I ever will have work done,  although I'm not afraid to try a new cream or "miracle" treatment!  I'm not great at keeping up beauty routines, though.  I usually use a product for a week or so and then forget about it.

I think that there are definite pluses that come with age.  I feel like I know more about myself.  I'd like to think that if I was still single, I wouldn't put up with as much crap as I did when I was single in my twenties.  Luckily, I don't have to think about that now.  I'm mostly happily married.

Now that I'm older I've become less of a perfectionist.  That fact alone allows me to do more stuff.  I try more things because I'm not afraid of falling short of perfection.  I know I'm not perfect, so it's okay if I don't do everything perfectly.  Now, I know that it's better to try and do "ehhh" than it is to not try at all.

I probably would have never attempted to walk a half marathon in my twenties.  Now in my forties, I'm doing it!  In my training I've already walked 13.5 miles twice.  Our first race is in less than two weeks now.  Wow!  And I've done the Warrior Dash.  I probably wouldn't have climbed that fifteen foot wall when I was in my twenties.  Loved this post on Facebook by Fit Bottomed Girls!

Here's the thing. . . . . . . we can't stop time.  We're all going to age.  It's a fact of life. So why fight it?  Go with it and do the best you can do!

How do you feel you're aging?  Are you fighting it?
