Thank You Random Truck Driver
Today's NaBloPoMo prompt is:
"Tell us about one time that you benefitted from the kindness of strangers."
I am sure I've been blessed countless times in my life by the generosity of strangers. But, there is one time that stands out in my mind.
When I lived in my college town, it was five hours away from home. I used to drive that drive often. That was before everyone had a cell phone.
One time on my way back to my beloved college town, I heard a loud, loud sound when I was getting onto the interstate. I was already two hours away from home. After the loud sound, I saw black rubber pieces start flying. I realized that I had gotten a flat tire. I pulled over.
I have no idea what I thought I was going to do. I'm not sure I could change a tire at that time. Truthfully, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't know how to do it now. And as I said, it was before cell phones were everywhere. I just knew that I would somehow make it through that.
Fortunately, I saw a semi truck had pulled over. That semi truck started backing down the side of the road on the interstate. The truck driver has seen that my tire was about to blow out and pulled over. He backed all the way up to change my tire for me.
I have no idea who he was. But, I'm very thankful that he knew what was happening before I did and pulled over to help me. I was able to make it to a gas station that had a service center and get my tire replaced to make the rest of the three hour trip.
Thank you, thank you to whoever that man was! You really saved me that day!
When have you benefitted from the kindness of strangers?
