Freezing Bread Helps Us Stick to Food Budget

My freezer is about to become bread-tastic!  I had saved $20 in my food budget this week for just-in-case items.  I was near one of the local bread outlets today.  It used to be only a couple miles from me at our last house.  Our "new" house is considerably farther from it, so I don't go out of my way to go to the store.  I had an eye doctor appointment today and the outlet is on the way home from there, so I decided to stop in and see what I could get today.  I did pretty well.  I ate up most of the rest of my food budget for the week, though.  After my $20 organic produce purchase (which I'll pick up on Thursday) and my $35 grocery store trip the other day, I've almost reached my $75 per week limit this week.

I spent $14.46 at the bread outlet.

I got 15 things, though!  So, that's a little under $1 for each item.

I got:
4 packs of wheat bagels
2 packs of English Muffins
2   8-packs of Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns
3 loaves of 100% whole wheat bread
2 loaves of Deli Rye
2 loaves of 12-grain bread

Even if I got some of this stuff at Aldi, who has very good prices on bread products, I wouldn't have gotten this much.  It does go bad pretty quickly, which is why I'll freeze them.

I usually freeze them standing on end and then when I thaw them out, I thaw them standing on their end.  I do that so that they don't get tough on one side.

I'm most excited about the bagels and English muffins!

Do you have a bread outlet near you?
