It's Been One Year Since My First Half Marathon

I love Facebook with all of it's memories!  It reminded me today that it's been one year since I completed my first official half marathon.  Since I can't run, I walked it of course.  So, this time last year I walked a half marathon in 3 hours and 5 minutes.  I haven't beaten that time yet.

When we did our second half marathon in April of this year, we were kind of doing it for the experience and for the fun.  People had shots and beers on the side of the road for goodness sakes!  I think we did that one in 3:24.  Maybe?? I did stop and use port-o-potties 3 times, though.  And we stopped to get our pictures taken. . . . .. and for those shots of beer.  It was a great time walking through Nashville's neighborhoods.

My friend just said today that we need to plan another one.  I think I have forgotten enough about the training to go back and do it again.  It's like childbirth, I guess.  You forget the pain and do it again. Time to add some more race bling to this stash.

I really need to get my act together and get back on some kind of fitness track.  Having this broken hand really threw me for a loop.  I think it's definitely time to get back into the swing of things, though.

One of my friends just asked my hubby and I yesterday if we wanted to do the Cupid's Undie Run in February.  These crazy people dress in their underwear and go out into what ever kind of weather February has to throw at us~~usually snow and below-freezing temps~~to run a quick mile to benefit the Children's Tumor Foundation.  It's a foundation dedicated to find a cure for neurofibromatosis.  NF causes tumors to grow all over the nervous system.  I suppose I can suck it up, put on long underwear. . . . I'm not much for being too immodest. . . . and freeze my booty off for a good cause.  It'll give me a reason to get in shape, too.

If I've learned anything since walking my first half marathon a year ago, it's that I do much better and stay on track better if I have an actual goal that I can work toward.

Have you ever trained for a big race?

  1. Do it! I ran my first 1/2 marathon last fall 2014 (Rock & Roll), ran my 2nd this fall. Decided to do a 10k with some girlfriends because a 10k sounds more impressive than 6 miles and now I have shin splints! Shin splints and high caloric season do not mix! Go for it! laura {Not a Trophy Wife}

    1. The one I did in Nashville in April was the Rock 'n Roll series!!! Loved it! My friends and I will have to look at the walker-friendly half marathon schedule and see if we can find a new one. I agree that high-caloric season and shin splints don't mix! How long will they last? BTW, congrats on your 2 halfs!!
