Hot Cranberry Spiced Wine Tea Cocktail

My friends and I had a get together last night and I wanted to make a warm holiday drink.  I actually started out with the intent to make a mocktail, because we had an early morning planned.  But, I ultimately decided to add red wine.  Although this drink has wine, it has more tea and Pomegranate Cranberry Juice cocktail than wine.  It's still a good way to have a little wine, but not go overboard.  It is sweet and tart with a little hint of spice.  We made it in the slow cooker so that it would stay warm and we wouldn't have to think about it!  Of course you can leave the wine completely out and it would be a great warm drink that everyone can enjoy.

It's pretty easy to prepare.  I used different flavored teabags to get most of the spice flavor.  I used a combination of green tea, organic berry tea, ginger tea and cinnamon flavored black tea.  It also had a hint of vanilla.

The hardest part of this whole recipe is waiting for the water to boil for the tea.

Here's what we used:

4 cups of water, boiled, divided
3 bags of Organic Berry tea, 2 bags of Cinnamon tea, 2 bags of Ginger tea and 2 bags of Green tea

1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tablespoon of white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups of Pomegranate Cranberry Cocktail
2 cups of Merlot
1 Mandarin orange, divided into segments
1/2 cup of fresh cranberries
Sprinkle of nutmeg
Sprinkle of clove powder

Directions:
Boil 4 cups of water.
Place teabags in 2 cups of the boiled water to steep.
Steep tea for 5 minutes.
Add 1/4 cup brown sugar and tablespoon white sugar to the other 2 cups of boiled water and stir to dissolve the sugar.

Pour the steeped tea and hot sugar water into the slow cooker.
Add the Pomegranate Cranberry Juice, wine and vanilla extract.
Stir everything together.
Add the mandarin segments and the cranberries.
Sprinkle the nutmeg and clove powder on top and give it another stir.

Heat on low for 2 hours.  Leave on low while your party is going on.  Ingredients can be added again to make more.

Enjoy!  What's your favorite warm holiday drink?
