It's the time of year for runny noses, sore throats, coughs, etc. Even if you haven't caught a cold yet, being cooped up in a dusty house can be difficult on your allergies. All of those things can cause a scratchy or sore feeling throat.
I've recently been given the opportunity to try out a throat drop that's made with natural ingredients and doesn't contain medicine. I received them for free from Pine Brothers in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
We received the Original Vitamin C Orange flavor and the Sugar Free Wild Cherry flavor. The Vitamin C Orange now has 25% RDA of Vitamin C per drop!
The package says "Delicious Soothing Throat Relief." It also says "Softish Throat Relief"
I didn't realize that they were "Softish" the first couple times I used them! I sucked on it as if it was a normal "hard" throat drop. After I saw that they were called "softish" I chomped on it a little just to see what that meant. It does feel soft instead of hard. It is recommended that you suck on them though, not chew them.
I like that these don't have any medicine or chemicals in them. They've been using natural ingredients since 1870. 1870!!! If they've been around that long, they have to be good, right?
The soothing comes from the plant glycerin that coats your throat to help it feel less dry and scratchy. I love that the orange flavored ones are colored with carrot extract instead of artificial dyes. The cherry flavored ones are colored with elderberry extract. The Lemon Lime flavor are colored with pumpkin, carrot and turmeric extracts. It's nice that if you're buying these for you kids (or yourself), you don't have to worry about red dye!
It also has gum acacia listed as an "inactive ingredient." After a little research, I found that gum acacia is used to soothe irritated mucous membranes.
My daughter and I have both tried them. They're supposed to be okay for adults and children 3 years and over. You should consult a physician for children under 3.
We feel like they helped us with our sore and scratchy throats. We let the neighbor try some as well and she liked them so much that she actually ended up going out and buying more. She bought the Natural Honey flavor. I love the way they feel with their softish texture and they did a good job of making my throat feel not so dry and scratchy. We liked the sugar free Wild Cherry the best.
The bags are easy to get into (this is always a plus in our opinion!) They do not come wrapped individually, which is better for the environment because of less packaging. We just throw them into a little reusable container or plastic bag to throw into our backpack or purse. In the house we just close the original bag up with a clothes pin or chip clip.
The throat drops come in these flavors:
Vitamin C Orange
Sugar Free Wild Cherry
All of the drops that have sugar are gluten-free and only have 5 calories per drop. They are usually around $3.49 - $3.99 for a bag of 32, depending on where and how you buy them.
You can buy them online at their website or other online retailers. Plus, they are available at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Target & other retailers. If you go to the Pine Bros. website, they have a coupon available for "Buy 2 and Save $1"
You can check out the video below if you like to see what people thought in a random taste test.
