Tried that Tabata Workout on YouTube!

My booty is sore!  I'm not sure if it is from the Body Weight workout I did 2 days ago or the Tabata workout I did yesterday.  Or a combination of both!  The latter is probably most likely.

When I was posting about the Body Weight workout on YouTube by Body by Amy, the Tabata workout loaded itself next (you now how YouTube does!)  So, I decided to try it yesterday.  I had NO idea what Tabata was.  Apparently, if I'm understanding correctly, it's just another High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout.  You do an exercise for 20 seconds, then you have active rest for 10 seconds.

This workout was broken down into different circuits which included:
  • A Warm-up circuit
  • A Jumping Jack circuit
  • A Lunge Circuit
  • A Knee Lift Circuit
  • A Ski/Skater circuit (That's what I'm gonna call it!  It had some ski squat type exercises and the speed skater exercise, among others)
  • Squat circuit???
  • Cool-down.
The total workout was around 30 minutes.  As in the Body Weight workout video that Amy does, she shows which exercises are going to be in each circuit ahead of time so you're not surprised and you have an idea of what you'll be doing, before you begin.  That way you can keep up and keep moving!

As I said, you do each exercise for 20 seconds, then you rest for 10 seconds.  Each exercise is done twice.  So you go exercise A for 20 seconds, active rest for 10 seconds, exercise A for 20 seconds, active rest for 10 seconds, exercise B for 20 seconds, active rest for 10 seconds, exercise B for 20 seconds, active rest for 10 seconds and so on until all 4 exercises are done in that circuit.  There is a one minute active rest/water break between circuits.

I liked this video from Amy also.  The different circuits keep you from getting bored and I like that the workouts are broken down into work hard, then rest periods.

I'm not gonna lie. . . .. I did NOT make it through the whole Lunge circuit on some of the exercises and I didn't make it through the entire Knee Lift Circuit.  I was getting cramps in my legs.  I made it most of the way through the whole 20 seconds on most, but then I had to just go into that active rest phase and just keep moving in another way.  The most important thing is to just keep moving.

I would more than likely do this video again.  I'm going to keep trying out new videos, but if I had a list of videos I'd definitely do again, this one would be on it!

Have you ever done a Tabata workout before???

I think I'll try her kettlebell Tabata workout next!
