Workout Wednesday | 20 Minute Yoga Makeover

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who stopped by and "encouraged" me yesterday..  Your comments meant so much to me!  I was having a hard time.  And I don't know why.  Actually, I do know why.  I was being selfish.  I was trying to work on a sewing project that I was really excited about, because I want to get it done and share it with y'all!!  But, my kids were asking me for something every 5 minutes or arguing and fighting the way siblings sometimes do.

Luckily, I shipped them off for a 3 hour camp day today.  So, it gave me a chance to work out.  Yay!!  I really need to get back on track with my workouts.  I'm participating in Sarah's Couch to 5K program.  She's the one I thanked last week for trying to keep me motivated to work out.  If you'd like to join the program with us, you can find Sarah at her Sarah Fitness Facebook page.  I've always wanted to try running.  I've tried several times in the past.  I even own 2 pairs of running shoes~~one for inside on the treadmill and one for outside.  I literally have dreams about running.  I fall asleep at night and dream about it.  I have to figure out how to do it!!!  So, join in with me and let's do it together!  Please?!?!

I completed day 2 today.  The first week, you do a warm up walk for 5 minutes, then you alternate walking for 90 seconds and running for 60 seconds for a total of 20 minutes, then you do a 5 minute cool-down walk.  It's a total of 30 minutes.  I did a yoga tape DVD (jeez I'm old) after running.

First of all, let me say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Sara Ivanhoe videos.  I have several of her yoga videos.  The one I used today is actually one of my go-to videos when I am in workout mode.  It's a short 20 minute workout that works (almost) every area of your body.  It's great for after running because it stretches all of the muscles that you've used including your hips.  The cover touts "A fabulous body in just 20 minutes a day!".  I'm not sure how long it would take for you to get that fabulous body in just 20 minutes a day, but I'm a huge fan.

The poses include arm balances, core strengthening, and twisting (one of my favorites) postures to "detoxify the body and improve vitality".  One of my favorite poses in the video is the Eagle Pose.  Makes me feel like a pretzel, but I loooove it.  It's a fairly easy video if you're just starting yoga.  She gives you ways to make it easier if you can't quite hold the poses for the entire length of time.
