Small Beach on a Great Lake | Veterans Memorial Park in Avon Lake, OH

Usually, when we go to the beach in Northeast Ohio, we go to Huntington Beach.  It's part of the Huntington Reservation in the metroparks.  But last year, one of my friends told me about a smaller beach a little farther west.  We never made it last year.  But, we did go yesterday.

It's a nice, little park in Avon Lake, Ohio.  The park features a Lake House that you can rent out for parties,   access to public restrooms,  picnic tables, a charcoal grill and free parking.  It also looks like they sell ice cream between 7:30 P.M. and sunset.  Plus, it's an easy flight of stairs down to the beach.  And, they have lifeguards on duty between 1:00 and 6:00 in the summer.

We got to the park around 1:00 in the afternoon and it was not crowded at all.  We were able to go down and put out our huge beach blanket and umbrella.  Most people that were there only stayed for 1 or 2 hours.  There was a mix of teens and families, but it never got crowded.  It was not overwhelming at all.  The kids and I ended up staying for a little over 3 hours.
(I need to take a look at that tutorial about how to straighten your horizon!)

The only bad thing about this beach is that you definitely need water shoes or need to keep your flip-flops on.  Some parts of the beach are pretty treacherous!  Jaycee actually cut her toe on a broken seashell.
