DIY Painted Striped Coffee Table

Last year sometime I bought these cheap, black side tables and coffee table from Target on
clearance.  I probably paid between $20- $30 total for all three.  With our dark carpet, dark sofa and loveseat, dark trunks and dark tables, it was waaaaaaay too dark in our living room.  I decided I needed to lighten things up.  I figured I'd get or make some lighter colored pillows for the couches and try to make the cheap little tables lighter.
I had thought about printing out some of our favorite vacation pictures in black and white and mod podging them to the table, but I decided to use painter's tape to make stripes and paint it instead.
I love the way it turned out.  My original thought was that I wanted Chevron stripes, but I went with just a random stripe pattern instead.  I might do the side tables with similar stripes, but in different pastel colors.  We'll see.

First, I taped where I wanted my stripes.
Next,  I painted the stripes with four layers of white latex paint.  I really should have primed it first, but I didn't.  We'll see if it lasts.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way it turned out.

Unfortunately, since they were cheap tables, the legs eventually ended up falling off.  Making lemonade from lemons, I used the table top to create a life-sized scrap book page, which I totally love.  You can find out the details on how I did it in this post.

And those side tables I was talking about above?  They ended up getting painted blue.  And now their legs are falling off too.  Guess you get what you pay for!  I'm deciding whether I'm going to make their tops into wall art as well!
