Homemade Whole Wheat Croutons from Hot Dog Buns

I once made this salad that was inspired by a sandwich that I had seen on an Anthony
Bourdain show. I thought if I was "recreating" the sandwich as a salad, it would be fun to have croutons.  I don't EVER buy croutons, so I cut up some of my whole wheat hotdog buns, drizzled them with olive oil, sprinkled garlic powder on them and popped them in a 350 degree oven.

I never measure anything when I cook, so I'm going to try to estimate the amounts I used.  I believe it was probably about 1/4 cup of olive oil and 1 tsp. of garlic powder.  If it looks like too much or too little, just cut back or add more!  

I began by separating each hotdog bun into halves and then cutting them into 1" square pieces.  I put them all into a little pile on one of my baking stones and drizzled the olive oil over them.  

Then I sprinkled the garlic powder over them.  Then I shook them out so that they were in a single layer on the stone.

Then I put the hotdog bun pieces in an oven that was preheated to 350 degrees.  Mine cooked for around 20 minutes, total.  I flipped the pieces and stirred them up to cover them more thoroughly with the olive oil and garlic powder about every five minutes.  

They turned out super yummy and now I know how I can make whole wheat croutons easily and have no waste.  As if croutons would ever go to waste in this house.  These just tasted so much fresher than store bought croutons.
