3 Types of Unhealthy Relationships to Let Go of in 2018

Relationships play a large role in our daily interactions and greatly influence our lives. They can have a positive or negative effect on your emotions, health, and general wellbeing. Healthy relationships have the potential of helping you maintain a level of happiness, as well as providing you with the love, support, and encouragement you need. On the flip side, unhealthy relationships can weigh you down, become a source of stress, and ultimately lead to unwanted health issues. To start off the year on a positive note, it might be a good idea to get rid of the unhealthy relationships you have in your life. This article will look at three types of negative relationships that you should assess and consider freeing yourself from.

Romantic relations

As cliché as it sounds, love can be a beautiful thing. However, when it becomes a source of stress and becomes somewhat toxic, it might be time to throw in the towel. According to Fox News, research shows that relations that are troubled tend to be more likely to create stress and weaken your immunity. It also shows that poor sleep is somewhat associated with relationship conflict. If it happens that you and your love interest are arguing often and not seeing eye-to-eye, it can cause weight loss or gain, lack of concentration, high blood pressure, and depression among others.  Fortunately, if you do decide it’s time to cut the cord, the end of a romantic relationship isn’t the end of life. You can take the lessons you learn and apply them in a future relationship that will hopefully, be healthier.

Business relations

If you’re one of the many brave people who has happened to try their hand in the world of business, then you’re familiar with the many dynamics of business relationships. Having a strong network and positive business relationships can lead to mass success. Forbes discovered that a Harvard study found 85% of success in the professional world came as a result of people skills. The reality, however, is that no matter how excellent your people skills are, sometimes relationships turn sour. In business, this sometimes happens as a result of different views, opting out of contracts, and differing opinions regarding the direction the business should go. If this is the case, it may be best to dissolve the business relationship in the most amicable way possible. If, for example, you’re opting out of bad contracts, good timeshare cancellation letters can be the difference between a relationship ending on a high note or being a total disaster. Whatever the situation, try and find a professional way to end unhealthy business relations before they cause increased levels of anxiety and stress.

There isn’t always a tangible reason why we’re attracted to certain people, and they become our friends. Sometimes, it’s a case of opposites attracting, while in other instances you may be attracted by the things you have in common. Both reasons can result in conflict, either because you’re too much alike, or because you’re just too different. Some signs to look out for in an unhealthy friendship include one-sided communications, a lack of support for who you are, telling secrets, continuous disappointments, and bringing a friendship that brings out the worst in you. These are all negative attributes of a friendship and may be indications that you need to do an evaluation. Consider writing down a list of positive and negatives in relation to your friendship and see if the good outweighs the bad. If not, it may be a relationship you need to get rid of.

There is no such thing as perfection when it comes to relationships because we are all imperfect people. Irrespective of this reality, there should be a level of respect, love, and support in the relationship which should overshadow the imperfections. Relationships should make you better and help you grow and evolve. If yours aren’t doing so, it may be an indication that it’s time to let it go.
