7 Ways to Ensure Your Skin Stays Clear

The appearance of your skin is one of the first things someone notices when they see you. Having naturally clear, blemish-free skin is held in high regard, and for good reason. You’re either part of the lucky few that have it in their genes, or you put a lot of work into ensuring it stays looking healthy.

Regardless, having clean, healthy skin is important not only for the way you look, but can also be a sign of your overall health. The steps you take to attain healthy skin can also help to imrove your overall health. Below are seven ways to ensure it's in tip-top shape, allowing you to walk with confidence, and focus on improving other aspects of your appearance. Because, let’s be honest, nobody likes staring in the mirror in horror of the big red mountain that just formed on their forehead.

Exfoliators work by using small bits that brush off the dead layers of skin that lie on your face. By removing these layers, your pores are free to breathe, and your natural glow is more noticeable. Chemical exfoliants work in a similar manner but are more effective and gentle on the skin.

Eat Healthy

Sugar and dairy products are widely known to cause skincare issues such as acne among certain people. Oily, processed foods are no good for your skin, never mind any other part of your body. A wholesome, natural diet is the way to go. Check out these health ideas to see what you need to be eating for healthy skin.

Oil Control

If you have oily skin, you’ve likely tried drying it out and over washing to make it as oil-free as possible. While this seems viable in the short run, it’ll only make your skin produce more oil in the future. Moisturize with some Jojoba oil in the evenings before bed to trick your skin into producing less oil as opposed to making it think you need more.

Pillowcases and Towels

You probably know not to touch your face with your hands. But have you considered the other things that you can’t avoid touching your face with? Pillowcases and towels are the main suspects here. Wash them at least once every three days and once per week respectively to ensure less dirt reaches your skin.

Don’t Pop Pimples

Perhaps you’ve heard it before from a parent and thought it’s just an old wives’ tale, but there is a science to popping. By doing so, you open up your skin to infections while also scarring it due to the damage. So as satisfying as it is, it’s not worth it.

Wear Sunscreen

Even if you’re not going out, the ingredients in sunscreen could help heal any damaged parts of your skin - something post-acne sufferers will appreciate.  Make sure to look for sunscreens with zinc oxide.

Get Enough Sleep

Your skin heals when you sleep. It also calms you down and reduces stress, which is a common cause of acne. Aim for at least seven to eight hours, depending on how well you sleep.

Maintaining healthy skin clearly isn’t rocket science. Daily maintenance and attention to detail is all that’s necessary to ensure you look your best at all times.
